TOPIC: Stripping/painting 58 Sea Mac

Stripping/painting 58 Sea Mac 14 years 6 months ago #18381

Hi Guys,

Have any of you stripped your SeaMac's down to wood to repaint? I have quite a few layers on my 1958 and I would like to take it down, but I fear stripping chemicals may damage the plywood.

Anyone have experience with this?

I am not sure what others have used, but I have used ZIP STRIP for years and it has never gave me any problems at all.

The chemical is to strip off the finish (paint, stain, varnish). Remove the finish and then nuetralize the surfaces per the instructions on the container. Should in no way hurt the wood.

Thanks guys, I'll gently give it a try. Daryl mentioned sanding, I was thinking heat gun but if you've never had any trouble damaging the plywood chemicals would be much easier. I've never worked with plywood before so this is all new.
